Mill Lobby

This lobby of a historic rope mill in Brooklyn is updated to provide a refined entry for residents. Dated finishes are replaced with beautiful modern materials to establish a contemporary and timeless aesthetic. A series of wooden frames made of longleaf heart pine are inserted into existing niches to create a unifying architectural language. Glazed brick wall panels and recessed lighting in each niche generate a subtle reflectivity, effecting a more expansive space. Together with a new dark tile floor, the material palette is both durable and attuned to the historic industrial nature of the building.
