Riverdale Country School approached Office JDY to assist in the construction and closeout of the Zambetti Building by PBDW Architects on the Hill Campus in the summer of 2017. Being already familiar with the school through our involvement in the Upper Learning Building on the River Campus, we took on a project management role in support of Urban Projects Collaborative as owner's representative. In early 2018, Office JDY assumed full responsibility for the project management of the Zambetti Building, as well as for the Aquatics Center (also by PBDW Architects and on the Hill Campus) and the Upper Learning Building by Architecture Research Office. All three projects are being built by Shawmut Design and Construction.

The Zambetti Building incorporates the renovation of a pool, gymnasium, and supporting athletics facilities over six floors. The existing pool has been converted into a second gymasium, and new offices, training rooms, and locker rooms are provided. A complete renovation of the east facade looking out onto the adjacent field is also part of the project.

The Aquatics Center combines a six-lane, USA-certified lap pool with a large gathering area and locker rooms. This new building is located on a dramatically sloping site, and includes new landscaping. The project is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification.

The Upper Learning Building is a new classroom building for third through fifth grade, and together with nine classrooms also includes a theater, cafeteria, faculty offices, and several multipurpose rooms for creative collaboration. Classrooms on both floors have direct access to the outdoors and corridor skylights incorporate learning installations. The project has been awarded LEED Silver certification.

 

As one of the premier independent day schools in the country, the continued excellence of Riverdale's programs despite ongoing and extensive construction work is of tantamount importance. Office JDY has worked closely with the school's administration and staff to ensure an uncompromising experience for students and faculty throughout the process, and is managing all aspects of the construction and closeout in coordination with the construction management and architect/consultant teams.
